Volunteer requirements • Many of the venues are licensed so we require all volunteers to be 18 years of age or older. • A commitment of 12 hours minimum of volunteering during the 103rd Grey Cup Festival week (November 23 – 30, event times vary, select shifts may be prior to the festival) • Attendance at the 103rd Grey Cup Festival Volunteer Orientation (date to be determined) • The desire to be a great ambassador for the 103rd Grey Cup Festival, Winnipeg and Manitoba. This includes being prompt for your shift and courteous to guests, fellow volunteers and staff. • You may be required to complete a Criminal Record Check if you are on our Safety and Family Zone teams. Ticket selection will be determined once volunteers are confirmed. • Access to the 103rd Grey Cup Festival Post-Game Party at the University of Manitoba on Sunday, November 29. IMPORTANT • Volunteering for the 103rd Grey Cup Festival is separate from volunteering at the Grey Cup game itself (excluding Stage Squad). • Ticketed festival events and the Grey Cup game are not accessible with a festival volunteer pass (with the exception of one Concert Series event and the Post-Game Party on November 29). * Volunteers do not have to be available for all days outlined to apply for a specific role. We will be offering positions to volunteers based on experience, interest and availability. Activations Festival partners are an important part of our Festival community. Most partners offer activations to complement their brand. This team will be in charge of supporting the activation booths for the festival and the various partners, ensuring that everyone has what they need and that all activations run smoothly. There are limited positions available in this area, and previous event experience is an asset for this position. Volunteer shift dates: Tuesday November 24 – Sunday November 29 Bartenders/Barbacks This is one of the most fast-paced environments at the festival. The team handles alcohol sales, providing beer, wine, and liquor at specific licensed events. If you have earned a “Serving it Safe” certificate, sign up to be a festival bartender. Those without the certificate can fill the role of Barback. If you are friendly, responsible and have some experience working a bar, you’d be a great addition to this team. Volunteer shift dates: Thursday November 26 – Sunday November 29 Concert Crew The Concert Crew is responsible for setting up and striking equipment for concert performances and sound checks. We’re looking for team players who have an intermediate knowledge of stage and sound equipment and the physical strength to work this crew. Volunteer shift dates: Wednesday November 25 – Sunday November 29 Décor Assistant Décor is truly an art form and our décor company would love to have some helping hands to create jaw-dropping rooms for our special events. This includes creating beautiful centerpieces for galas, working with florals, setting tables with lavish linens and creating an overall wow factor for each event. This role will include set up and take down of décor elements. Volunteer shift dates: Wednesday November 25 – Sunday November 29 Event Assistant This team will be the ones making the event happen behind the scenes. These tasks will include anything from carrying awards on stage to fetching talent to making sure the guests are seated and have what they need. Volunteers with event experience, attention to detail and the ability to follow direction are great in these roles. Volunteer shift dates: Wednesday November 25 – Sunday November 29 Fan Experience & Family Zone The volunteers in our Fan Experience & Family Zone present and facilitate entertainment, games and hands-on activities for festival participants. It is the job of this team to ensure that everyone at the event has a safe and enjoyable time. We are looking for volunteers with patience, creativity and lots of energy to work in this area. Please note that joining this team may require a child abuse registry check and a criminal record check. Volunteer shift dates: Thursday November 26 – Saturday November 28 Festival Admin A festival is a huge undertaking and there will be many tasks that need to be fulfilled in the festival office before and during the festival. Volunteers need to have high attention to detail and enjoy working with different types of people and in fast-paced environments. There will be a limited amount of shifts available in this role and some shifts will be prior to the festival. Volunteer shift dates: Prior to festival – Select dates in November Tuesday November 24 – Sunday November 29 Information This team provides services to volunteers and visitors on various Festival sites, the airport and hotels in the downtown area. They will provide people with general information about the events, the city, how to get around, the Grey Cup game and much more. This will be the place that people will go to ask questions about the Grey Cup Festival. There will be a training session for Information volunteers to ensure they have a good working knowledge of the festival. Knowledge of the city/downtown area is imperative. Experience in Customer Service is an asset. Volunteer shift dates: Wednesday November 25 – Sunday November 29 Merchandise There will be retail outlets on site that sells clothing and souvenirs. The volunteers on this team set up and staff the operation for the entire festival week. If you are detail-oriented, have strong customer service skills and cash-handling experience, this may be the volunteer position for you. Volunteer shift dates: Wednesday November 25 – Sunday November 29 Photography Our Photography team volunteers are responsible for taking professional photographs at all Festival events. It is their job to capture memorable moments during the festival week. If you are interested in joining this team, please include a link to an online portfolio in your application. Volunteer shift dates: Wednesday November 25 – Sunday November 29 Safety The Safety team ensures the safety of all festival patrons, the festival site, maintains crowd security and enforces policies set by the 103rd Grey Cup Festival. The volunteers interested in working on this team must be able to remain calm under pressure and deal with tense situations. Conflict resolution training or skills is an asset. Working outdoors may be required at times. Volunteers applying to this team may require a criminal record check. Volunteer shift dates: Wednesday November 25 – Sunday November 29 Set Up/Take Down Events like the Grey Cup Festival could not happen without a team of dedicated volunteers on site before and after the event, making sure all elements are in the right place and ready to go and ensuring everything gets put away and venues are restored to their previous state. This team is in charge of helping set up and take down all events and festival areas. Volunteers will require moderate physical strength and the ability to work at a quick pace. Take down may include late evening hours. Volunteer shift dates: Monday November 23 – Monday November 30 Ticket Takers/Registration As part of the 103rd Grey Cup Festival, we have several events that will require a dedicated team of volunteers to ensure smooth entry for all of our guests. Volunteers will be required to work in a fast paced environment. The ability to remain calm under pressure and give great customer service will help in this role. Previous experience at a registration table or door/box office for events is an asset. Volunteer shift dates: Thursday November 26 – Sunday November 29 Transportation Our Transportation team assists performers and guests at the airport and transports passengers between the airport, hotel and site. These volunteers must have a valid driver’s license and the physical strength and endurance to move equipment, strong customer service and general knowledge of the festival and the city of Winnipeg. Volunteer shift dates: Tuesday November 24 – Monday November 30 VIP/Media Assistant Volunteers on this team will be responsible for ensuring a smooth and positive experience for their designated VIP/Media, including making sure they are where they need to be and have everything they need. VIPs include CFL Alumni, CFL Players, Performers and other special guests. Volunteers must have discretion, a high level of organization and be able to guide and support VIPS/media as needed. Volunteer shift dates: Wednesday November 25 – Sunday November 29 VIP Hospitality The VIP Hospitality team works in several areas at the festival. The Green Room at each stage caters to our performers, requiring volunteers to create a quiet and calm environment. The VIP Salon is an area for Alumni, Players, Partners and VIPs to have a chance to relax and socialize. It is important that volunteers in these areas have strong customer service skills, are hospitality oriented and able to solve problems. 103rd GREY CUP STAGE SQUAD The role of the Stage Squad is to assist with setting the staging, audio and other production elements for the Pregame, Halftime Show and Awards Ceremony during the Grey Cup Championship Game on November 29, 2015. Volunteers participating as members of the ‘Stage Squad’ must be over the age of 18, comfortable walking distances and must be physically able to push carts, pull cable and lift a minimum of 50lbs. This is an ideal opportunity to learn about the logistics and behind-the-scenes organization required to produce a live outdoor stadium event. IMPORTANT DETAILS • Stage Squad volunteers cannot volunteer at 103rd Grey Cup Festival events. • Stage Squad volunteers receive a separate volunteer benefits package that includes Game Day accreditation, a 103rd Grey Cup Festival toque, access to the 103rd Grey Cup Festival Post-Game Party on Sunday November 29, and the chance to be a part of the largest sporting event in Canada. • Stage Squad volunteers will not be permitted to watch the game from the sidelines or the stands. • Stage Squad volunteers must be available for ALL four scheduled rehearsals: Thursday, November 26 6:00pm – 9:00pm Friday, November 27 5:30pm – 10:00pm Saturday, November 28 5:30pm – 8:00pm Sunday, November 29 4:00pm – 9:30pmClick here to apply!
